LUSAKA STOCK EXCHANGE

The Lusaka Stock Exchange (LuSE) is Zambia’s primary securities market, facilitating the trading of equities and bonds to enable businesses and the government to raise capital. It provides a regulated platform for investors to engage with Zambia’s economy, promoting financial inclusion and investment opportunities.

GOVERNMENT BONDS

Government bonds are long-term debt instruments issued by the government through the Bank of Zambia to raise funds. These bonds have maturities ranging from 2 to 15 years, with investors receiving coupons every six payments and their investment at maturity.

Auctions happen once a month.

TREASURY BILLS

Treasury bills are short-term debt instruments issued by the Government of Zambia through the Bank of Zambia to borrow money for up to one year. These bills are sold at a discount and redeemed at face value, with the interest earned being the difference between the purchase price and the maturity amount. Tenors available include 91, 182, 273, and 364 days.

Treasury bills can be purchased twice a month

UNIT TRUST

A unit trust is a type of collective investment scheme where investors pool their money together to invest in a diversified portfolio of assets such as stocks, bonds, or other securities. The fund is managed by a professional fund manager, and each investor owns “units” that represent a portion of the overall fund. Unit trusts can provide the advantage of compound interest.
